🌺 The Hawaii "crisis" no one's talking about (and why it's good news for families)

Aloha Reader!

I need to have a real talk with you about something that's been on my mind lately – and I have a feeling it's been on yours too.

I've been getting SO many messages asking me the same question: "Marcie, is Hawaii still worth visiting? Are we even welcome there anymore?"

And honestly? I totally get why you're asking. If you've been following Hawaii news (or heaven forbid, reading social media comments), you might be feeling a little... confused about whether now is the right time to book that dream family trip.

So let me cut through all the noise and give you the real deal about what's actually happening in Hawaii right now.

Here's the truth nobody's talking about:

While everyone's been doom-scrolling about Hawaii "not wanting tourists," something interesting has been happening behind the scenes. June 2025 was reportedly the slowest month for Hawaii tourism bookings in quite some time.

But here's the plot twist – this might actually be GOOD news for families like yours.

Think about it: fewer crowds at your favorite snorkeling spots, easier dinner reservations, maybe even some deals. The Hawaii Tourism Authority is literally running campaigns saying "Hawaii is ready" and "We welcome mindful travelers."

The key word there? Mindful. And if you're reading this email, you're probably exactly the kind of thoughtful traveler Hawaii wants to welcome.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room – Maui.

I know many of you have been wondering about this. The Lahaina wildfires were absolutely devastating, and my heart goes out to everyone affected. But here's what might surprise you: tourism spending on Maui has actually bounced back above pre-pandemic levels.

The rest of Maui – Haleakala, Road to Hana, Wailea, Kihei – they're all operating normally and genuinely need your support. Your tourism dollars are directly helping the entire island recover.

"But I keep seeing posts about Hawaii not wanting tourists..."

Okay, real talk time. Yes, there's been some vocal criticism on social media. But the vast majority of people in Hawaii's tourism industry – hotel workers, tour guides, restaurant owners, local families – absolutely want you to visit. Their livelihoods depend on it.

What Hawaii wants is simple: visitors who respect the culture, the environment, and local communities. (Which, let's be honest, you already do because you care enough to research and plan thoughtfully.)

So what does this actually mean for YOUR Hawaii trip?

✈️ Flights: Fewer seats available, but also softer demand = potential deals if you're flexible
🏨 Hotels: Working harder for your business = better service and deals
🏖️ Beaches & Activities: Some new reservation systems = fewer crowds and better experiences
👥 International visitors: Way down = more space for your family at popular spots

My honest opinion?

If you can afford it comfortably and you're willing to be respectful (which you already are), Hawaii is absolutely still worth visiting in 2025 and 2026.

Will it be exactly like your 2019 trip? Probably not. You might pay a bit more, make more reservations in advance, encounter some new fees. But you'll also likely have fewer crowds and possibly even better service.

Here's what I recommend:

Come with realistic expectations. Come ready to support local businesses. Come ready to learn about Hawaiian culture. Come ready to be flexible.

And remember – every destination evolves. Hawaii is just being more intentional about managing theirs.

The bottom line?

Don't let fear or uncertainty keep you from your Hawaii dreams. The islands are still incredibly beautiful, the culture is still rich and welcoming, and frankly, there might not be a better time to visit than right now.

Your family deserves that magical Hawaii experience – less crowded beaches, easier reservations, and all. The question isn't whether Hawaii is "worth it" anymore. The question is: are you ready to experience Hawaii in a whole new (and potentially better) way?

I'm here to help you navigate all of this, so hit reply if you have questions. Let's make your Hawaii dreams happen.

Sending you aloha and sunshine,

Marcie

P.S. – I just recorded a whole podcast episode diving deeper into this topic because I knew you'd want all the details. If you want the full scoop on what's really happening and how to plan accordingly, give it a listen!

P.P.S. – Seriously though, if Hawaii has been calling to you, don't wait. Sometimes the "uncertain" times turn out to be the absolute best times to travel. Trust me on this one. 🌺
